The Zoning Enforcement Officer is responsible for interpreting and enforcing the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO), including the processing of zoning petitions, subdivision applications, and site plan reviews. This position is further responsible for short- and long-range planning under the general supervision of the Director of Planning & Development, the Planning Manager/Zoning Enforcement Officer oversees the day to day operation of the Planning Division of the Planning & Development Department to ensure the efficient and accurate processing and review of applications, enforcement of ordinances, maintenance of records, and courteous customer service.

Essential Functions:

  • Receives and reviews complaints of potential UDO violations, conducts site inspections, and initiates legal action as necessary.
  • Provides oral and written interpretations of the County's adopted Unified Development Ordinance.
  • Provides assistance to property owners and applicants.
  • Supervises Planning Division staff by providing work assignments, monitoring and evaluating performance, providing training and staff development, and making recommendations regarding the hiring, discipline, and termination of employees.
  • Manages and performs zoning petition and subdivision application intake and review.
  • Prepares and reviews short- and long-range planning studies and manages special projects requiring a high level of policy development or ordinance interpretation.
  • Gives testimony or advice based on technical and professional knowledge of planning, land use, zoning, mapping, and legal issues during zoning hearings, County Board committee, and County Board meetings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
