Pay, Education & Experience:

  • Pay range is $27.99 to $40.58 for a PIO I and $31.34 to $45.45 for a PIO II. Actual starting pay depends on the experience and skills considered during the offer process.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in journalism, social media, digital media, public relations, marketing or a related communications program, or an equivalent combination of formal education and work experience.
  • Three years of experience for PIO or five years of experience for PIO II in public relations, content management, journalism or social media with working knowledge and experience in HTML and relevant experience across key social media sites including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube and Nextdoor. Must be able to provide examples of previous work designing publications or web content.
  • Designs and prepares newsletter for print.
  • Manages the City’s official website.
  • Research, write and edit content for both traditional and new social media outlets. Works with staff to ensure message accuracy; edits content from providers; develops, locates and selects appropriate multi­media content and formats for web use. Stays abreast of social media trends, best practices, and technologies.
  • Responsible for all city communication/coordination of city activities, including public and special events and civic engagement programs.
  • Attends public engagements and assists with coordination and photo opportunities.
  • Assists with public information during citywide emergencies and incidents.
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining marketing strategies for the city, including promotional publications and advertising.
  • · Collaborate with emergency management in preparation or response to a crisis.
  • · Represent Spring Hill and execute responsibilities for collaborative projects with other city and county communications leaders in Miami and Johnson Counties.
  • · Maintain positive relationships with community partners by volunteering and contributing to their initiatives.
  • · Serve as liaison for communication efforts between utility providers and residents.
  • · Facilitate community outreach initiatives including identifying beneficial partnership and sponsorship opportunities.
  • · Serve as primary point of contact for media inquiries.
  • Must attend evening meetings and occasional weekend activitie
  • Must be punctual and timely in meeting all requirements of performance

Brief Description of Duties:

Under the direction of the City Administrator, assists with maintaining the city’s website ( develop proactive strategies ahead of changes that impact residents; monitors and updates various social media sites operated by the City; develops and maintains electronic and print newsletters; develops marketing materials and initiatves; writes news releases, speeches and other material. Assess changing needs, challenges and identify solutions to implement. Works with media, elected City Council members, senior management team members, and city staff. Oversee, authorize and enforce the use of City branding. Implement new and emerging communication tools and methods. Attends public engagements and assists with coordination and photo opportunities. Assists with public information during citywide emergencies and incidents. Identify annual goals and develop accompanying strategies.

· Assist departments in developing and executing individual project communication strategies annually or as needed to include branding, marketing, advertising, and crisis communication plans.

· Prepare press releases and coordinate press conferences or interviews.
