Job Description

Overview:

JOB SUMMARY: The Project Controls Engineer provides scheduling and cost tracking services. This position works with the project team to develop, manage and monitor project schedules and cost systems throughout the project life cycle.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Understand, practice and continually lead by example Doyon Associated’s commitment to zero incident safety and environmental culture.
  • Development, maintenance, and monitoring of construction Critical Path Method Schedules.
  • Understand project documents to accurately develop baseline schedules, including all required dates, activities, and milestones.
  • Perform progress schedule updates to include comprehensive reporting and narratives.
  • Review project schedules and provide recommendations based on execution goals.
  • Conduct site walks for progress validation and prepare monthly reporting packages for the project site team.
  • Review the project progress and present it to management for decision-making.
  • Prepare daily and weekly project reports for management to review.
  • Monitor project activities for scope deviations and prepare cost impact documentation.
  • Measure and control cost, schedule, and technical performance against project activities as work progresses.
  • Excellent understanding and working knowledge of all contracts, work orders, change orders, and similar documents governing each project and ensure internal compliance with applicable terms and conditions.
  • Continually promote and practice teamwork.
  • Ability to work and comply to existing corporate policies, standards, and expectations.
  • Participate in required client meetings to include management, cost controls, construction and other meetings as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS and COMPETENCIES:

  • College degree in construction management, engineering or related and equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in project controls and Critical Path Method scheduling in the construction industry. Experience in arctic oil & gas pipeline projects is preferred.
  • Proficiency in resource loaded Oracle Primavera P6 schedules.
  • Ability to accurately interpret construction documents.
  • Knowledge of construction means, methods, and sequences.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Effective listening, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and report writing skills.
  • Must have strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Adobe, and Windows.
  • Ability to learn, understand and effectively use corporate management information systems.
  • Strong ability to reason with client’s project management and construction supervision.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Depending on size, number and complexity of simultaneously jobs, this position may supervise other cost/schedule engineers.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS and WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 40+ pounds.
  • May be required to stand, sit, or walk for reasonable periods of time.
  • Operate personal computer for extended periods.
  • Work extended hours (scheduled and/or unscheduled, nights and/or weekends), occasionally, as needed or required to meet established deadlines.
  • Work outdoors in weather extremes and near equipment with potentially high noise levels.
  • Must have valid driver’s license with good driving record.
  • Must pass a drug and alcohol test
