PASTORAL ASSISTANT FOR MULTICULTURAL MINISTRIES JOB OPENING

First United Methodist Church of Madisonville, Kentucky, a dynamic, missional 1000-member congregation, seeks an experienced and faithful person to be our next Pastoral Assistant for Multicultural Ministries.  This is a half-time, salaried ministry position that is designed to implement the mission of First United Methodist Church by providing leadership to Iglesia Esperanza Viva,our Spanish-language congregation, and interfacing with the English-speaking congregation in fruitful partnership.

The qualified candidate should have a calling to ministry and experiences to help them lead a community of faith.  The candidate should also have a vital relationship with Jesus Christ and the ability to do ministry in a multicultural setting, fulfilling a pastoral role for both the Hispanic and Anglo communities. Ability to communicate in Spanish and English is a vital job skill. Candidates should be self-motivated, creative, a team-player, and a team builder with organizational and leadership skills.

JOB SUMMARY

The Pastoral Assistant for Multicultural Ministries (PA) coordinates the effort of the church to reach new, diverse people for Jesus Christ and to provide necessary accommodations to include them in the life of the church.  The PA will serve as the lay supply pastor for the Iglesia Esperanza Viva community, and interface with the larger church and community in outreach efforts. The PA is a vital member of the First United Methodist Church staff ministry team and is a team player in the various ministries of the church.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

-      Provide pastoral leadership to the Esperanza Viva community including preaching, teaching, administration, and pastoral care.

-      Work with the pastors and church staff to coordinate the overall ministry of the church, and to engage persons of different cultures into the life of the whole church together.

-      Work in Christian Outreach and Evangelism to Hispanic Community.

-      Coordinate with other church staff and volunteers for planning worship and other events.

-      Create and meet regularly with the Esperanza Viva Leadership team.

-      Active involvement and leadership in the Hispanic Community in Madisonville

-      Involvement with the English-Speaking Congregation, and help to engage them in missional outreach of the church

-      Work with the church to identify further opportunities for multicultural ministries.

-      Excellence in coordinating volunteer teams to serve and in communicating expectations.

-      Propose and manage budget for multicultural ministries.

-      Other duties as assigned

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:

-      High School Diploma or Equivalent

-      Experience in church leadership; experience in church planting a plus

-      Theological Fit with The United Methodist Church and willingness to work toward licensure as a local pastor in The United Methodist Church

-      Approval for work in the United States
