What You’ll Be Doing

The Accountant is responsible for managing day-to-day accounting functions, including journal entries, reconciliations, accounts payable, and financial reporting. This role supports the church’s mission by ensuring accuracy, integrity, and stewardship of financial resources.

Your Day-to-Day

Every day looks different, but here’s a snapshot of what you’ll be up to:

• Prepare and record general ledger journal entries for bank transactions
• Prepare and analyze the trial balance as part of the monthly close process
• Manage the accounts payable process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
• Prepare offering batches and reconcile giving revenue
• Respond to ad hoc reporting requests related to giving and overall financials
• Perform other church duties as assigned by the Senior Director of Finance to help all people, of all ages, all the time, advance in their journey with Christ

What We’re Looking For

The must-haves for this role:

• Education & Experience: We are looking for someone with a bachelor’s degree (but it is not required) and a minimum of 2 years of experience in accounting.

• 
  Skills & Strengths: We are looking for someone who:
• Align with the vision and mission of BattleCreek Church.
• Demonstrated experience in general ledger reporting and financial statement preparation
• Familiarity with Sage Intacct and/or Ministry Platform considered a plus
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Proven ability to work independently while thriving in a collaborative team environment

The Essentials

Depending on the role, you might find yourself in an office, on stage, out in the community, or working behind the scenes. Evening and weekend hours may be required—it’s all part of ministry life!

This role is primarily office-based but may involve some physical activity, including standing, lifting (up to 20 pounds), kneeling, setting up equipment, or prepping for events—sometimes even late at night. Don’t worry; we’ll ensure you know what to expect!
