Golf Shop Assistant
Golf course in Sanibel, Florida is looking for a Golf Shop Assistant.
Position Overview:
Working closely with the Director of Golf and Merchandise Manager, these roles supports the Golf Department with a focus on day-to-day golf operations, member relations, sales, inventory, merchandising, POS and other duties to provide world-class service to the club’s members and guests.
Essential Responsibilities:
• Greets and assists members and guests in a warm, friendly, and professional manner, engaging Members and being able to recall and address by name.
• Assists the Merchandise Manager in providing a successful retail operation.
• Well-versed in Club activities and policies.
• Provides excellent customer service including handling phone calls, making tee times, assisting with Members’ needs.
• Maintains a well-organized and aesthetically pleasing Golf Shop environment.
• Educates customers on the latest golf products and services to meet their needs.
• Advises Members and Guests about apparel, golf clubs and other Golf Shop products.
• Promotes and sells golf shop merchandise, assists in setting up promotional displays and for sales events.
• Operates point of sale system (POS) and tee time software.
• Maintains an accurate tee sheet.
• Assists Members with tee time reservations and event registrations.
• Places special orders and provides timely follow-up through the process.
• Responsible for opening/closing procedures of the Golf Shop.
• Assists with receiving procedures and reconciliation of payables.
• Assists with unboxing, tagging, steaming, and prepping merchandise for the floor.
• Maintains inventory levels on floor and notes any items needing restocked or reordered.
• Helps to build and maintain Member databases to track sizes and preferences.
• Ensures stockrooms are kept clean, organized and up to code.
• Assists with monthly physical inventory counts.
• Assists with merchandise reporting and analyzing sales trends, as needed.
• Attends Golf Staff meetings, as well as other meetings (e.g. Golf Committee and/or tournaments), if applicable.
• Performs other duties as assigned by Management.
*Applicable to Golf Shop Assistant role:
• Provides golf lessons to Members and Guests, including group clinics (if qualified).
• Assists in facilitating the Club tournaments and related events, as required.
• Interprets and enforces golf rules and regulations, informing the Director of Golf of violations.
upport the Director of Golf in all aspects of the golf operations. The Lead Assistant will manage tee times, management of Marshals and Starters, tournaments and golf outings. Responsibilities also include teaching, junior golf camps, merchandising, training, and other related duties. This position reports directly to the Director of Golf.
Duties:
o Train, schedule, and supervise Marshals and Starters.
o Effectively manage tournaments from planning through completion.
o Develop and implement golf clinics and junior camps.
o Assist customers by explaining and enforcing golf policies, rules, and regulations.
o Manage the PGA Junior League program.
o Operate the golf shop and outside operations in the absence of Salesclerks.
o Support the Pro Shop Supervisor with ordering, inventory, and credit management.
o Oversee all aspects of the member list, reporting any changes to the Director of Golf.
o Manage daily opening and closing procedures for golf operations as needed.
o Assume the Director of Golf’s responsibilities in their absence.
o Provide golf instruction to members and guests.
Requirements:
Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent.
Two years of merchandising and/or retail experience, preferred.
PGA Member or an Apprentice working to attain PGA Professional status is desirable for Golf Shop Assistant role.
Demonstrates outstanding professionalism, helpfulness, friendliness and customer service skills.
Full-time, flexible hours are required (must be able to work weekends, holidays).
Must be dependable, adaptable, organized, show initiative and demonstrate professionalism at all times.
Maintains a professional appearance, demeanor and positive attitude consistently, even under pressure.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and ability to use and navigate a POS and related golf industry software.
Excellent verbal and written communication and follow up skills.
Enthusiastically promotes the game of golf.
Compensation:
$19.00 – $21.00 per hour.
