Tractor & Trailer Department Manager – Maintenance & Repair Shop (Milwaukee Area)

Location: Milwaukee, WI

Employment Type: Full-Time

Compensation: Competitive salary + benefits + performance incentives

Salary range is $75k-$85K

 

Are you a hands-on leader with a sharp eye for operational efficiency and a deep knowledge of tractor and trailer maintenance? A well-established and highly respected commercial repair and maintenance provider in the Milwaukee area is seeking a  Department Manager  to oversee and lead their Tractor & Trailer division.

 

This isn’t just a clipboard-and-meetings type of role—we’re looking for someone who’s as comfortable walking the floor as they are reading reports.

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead daily operations for the Tractor & Trailer Department, ensuring safety, quality, and SRT goals are consistently met.
  • Supervise and mentor a team of technicians, foremen, and support staff—developing talent while holding high standards.
  • Manage workflow, job scheduling, and resource allocation to meet customer commitments.
  • Drive continuous improvement in shop processes, preventive maintenance programs, and repair quality.
  • Partner with leadership to plan capacity, analyze trends, and engage the team in safety goals.
  • Monitor and manage department budget, productivity, and KPIs.

 

What You Bring to the Table:

  • 5+ years of progressive leadership in a heavy-duty truck/trailer repair environment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and a firm grasp of DOT regulations, diagnostics, and repair methods.
  • Proven team leadership, with the ability to build trust and accountability.
  • Experience with shop management systems (e.g., TMT, Karmak, etc.) a plus.
  • Comfortable balancing operational demands with a customer-first mindset.
  • A direct, decisive approach—paired with the ability to lead through change.
