POSITION TITLE: Farm Laborer/Equipment OperatorCLASSIFICATION: NonexemptDEPARTMENT: Santa Ana Agricultural Enterprises SUPERVISOR: Farm ForemanGRADE: NE2 Position Summary:Under direct supervision of the Farm Foreman, ensures the effective operation of the Tribal Farm by planting, irrigating, cultivating, fertilizing and harvesting alfalfa, corn and Sudan grass.This list of duties and responsibilities is illustrative only of the tasks performed by this position and is not all-inclusive. Essential Duties & Responsibilities:• Flood irrigates fields• Loads agricultural products into trucks, and drive trucks to market or storage facilities.• Operates tractors, tractor-drawn machinery, and self-propelled machinery to plow, harrow and fertilizes soil, or to plant, cultivate, spray and harvest crops.• Participates in the inspection, grading, sorting, storage, and post-harvest treatment of crops.• Repairs farm buildings, fences, and other structures.• Sets up and operates irrigation equipment.• Applies pesticides, herbicides or fertilizers to crops.• Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required.• Performs other duties as required. Minimum Qualifications:High School Diploma or GED plus six (6) months farming experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience; with machinery knowledge preferred. Must successfully pass a background investigation and a pre-employment drug testing. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico driver's license. Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and Certifications:• Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.• Skill in using heavy equipment including tractors and mowers as well as farming tools including shovels, graders, picks, axes, and other related equipment.• Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment.• Ability to work extended hours and various work schedules.• Ability to verbally communicate efficiently and effectively.• Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with the individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds. Physical Demands:While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee occasionally is required to stand; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Work Environment:Work is generally performed outdoors. Exposure to natural weather conditions and various dusts and mists may occur while performing outdoor duties. Standing and walking may be on uneven surfaces or unstable ground. Situations where safety-toe shoes, safety goggles, gloves, or protective face shields are needed may occur.
