Under the general direction of the Elevator District Office Senior Safety Engineer (Elevators), the Office Technician (Typing) will perform a variety of administrative functions for the Elevator Unit District Office, with the Division of Occupational Safety and Health.  

This posting may be used to fill future vacancies in accordance with 2 CCR §249.3

Working Conditions

This job is located at:
Division of Occupational Safety and Health - Elevator District Office – Monrovia
800 Royal Oaks Drive, Suite 105, Monrovia, CA 91016


The incumbent works in an air conditioned office building with natural and artificial lighting and temperature control. In addition, the incumbent works in a cubicle in close proximity to others in a typical office setting. Typical work requires use of the computer and telephone for extended periods of time and interaction with co-workers.

• Monday to Friday; 8:00 am to 5:00 pm

Special Requirements

  • The position(s) require(s) the ability to type at a minimum speed as designated on the Class Specifications (link available in the additional documentation section). You must obtain a valid typing certificate confirming your ability to meet the minimum typing speed, prior to being hired. Additional information regarding acceptable typing tests is available at the CalCareers.ca.gov website.

Typing Certificate – 40 WPM typing certificate issued within the last four (4) years and certified  from a five (5) minute typing test.

  • Proficient Knowledge of: Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, and Adobe Acrobat; modern office methods, supplies and equipment; various databases and electronic files; arithmetic, spelling, grammar, punctuation, business English and correspondence.
  • Skills: writing skills to prepare comprehensive reports and summaries; communication and presentation skills to move information between the sender and receiver; computer skills; organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to: Perform technical clerical work, including ability to spell correctly; use good English; make arithmetical computations; operate various office machines; follow oral and written directions; maintain and organize files; meet and deal tactfully with the public and co-workers; follow rules and office policies and procedures; prepare correspondence independently utilizing a wide knowledge of vocabulary, grammar and spelling; communicate effectively; interpret, proofread, and edit various documents, report types, and narratives.
