Job Description

Join the Team. Kansas City Current is home to the best-in-class training facility and the first stadium built for a women’s sport team. Our organization is committed to seeing the fullest potential of our athletes and of our city.

To foster our vision, we prioritize hiring and retaining world-class talent. We’re looking for talented individuals with diverse perspectives, skill sets, and backgrounds to provide our guests with an unforgettable experience. As leaders in women’s sports, we are excited to offer a variety of positions within our front office, stadium, and event settings. We provide opportunities for professional growth and development and invest in our employees through competitive pay, robust health care and wellness benefits, and employee resources and networking.

Who are we hiring? We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Director to oversee and direct all event programming and operational production at the CPKC Stadium (Stadium) and The University of Kansas Health System Training Center (Training Center). This role is pivotal in the strategic event planning and operational execution of a wide range of events — from KC Current matches and other large-scale sporting events, youth development programs, and private functions. The ideal candidate is a seasoned leader with a passion for event excellence, operational efficiency, and collaborative teamwork.

What will you do?

  • Lead All Event Management. Oversee the planning, scheduling, and execution of all events across both venues with precision and strong attention to detail – in both event preparation and live production.
  • Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) Development. Create SOPs across event management and operations to maintain consistency, improve efficiency and drive client satisfaction.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration. Coordinate closely with internal departments— sales, marketing, partnerships, community engagement, security, venue operations, and others—as well as external stakeholders to ensure cohesive event execution.
  • Team Leadership. Lead and inspire the event management team by setting clear goals, assigning responsibilities, and upholding high-quality standards across all deliverables.
  • Event Planning & Coordination. Own the full lifecycle of event planning and production—from ideation and logistics to setup and execution, inclusive of AV equipment—while managing timelines, dependencies, and special requirements.
  • Risk Management. Proactively identify risks, develop mitigation strategies, and implement solutions to ensure smooth event execution in collaboration with internal teams.
  • Ensure Compliance. Ensure that all events meet regulatory and organizational standards, as well as contractual obligations, with a focus on safety and legal compliance.
  • Client Relationship Management. Serve as the primary contact for external clients, aligning event execution with contractual deliverables and ensuring client satisfaction.
  • Resource & Budget Oversight. Manage event-related resources, including staffing, equipment, and materials. Monitor expenditures and ensure optimal efficiency while remaining within budget constraints.
  • Post-Event Evaluation. Conduct post-event debriefs with key stakeholders to recognize success, capture feedback, and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.

What do you need to succeed?

  • Bachelor’s degree in business management, sports management, hospitality, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in event management, with preferred background in sports or live entertainment industries.
  • Proven leadership experience, including supervising and managing cross-functional teams.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple events simultaneously with complex logistics and high guest experience.
  • Experience in managing budgets and financial resources, with the ability to develop and monitor operational budgets while ensuring cost-effective operations.
  • Experience using event planning software and tools
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Solutions-oriented and strong decision-making skills.

Special Requirements Of The Job

  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, inclusive of weekends, nights (event evenings & overnight operation shifts) and holidays.
  • Ability to monitor company communications and respond to time-sensitive matters with senior executives.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, and move around the venue for extended periods of time, often during events or facility setup and breakdown.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds as needed for event setup, equipment management, or assisting with operational needs.
  • Requires occasional bending, squatting, and reaching overhead to handle various tasks related to facility management, equipment, and event preparation.
  • Must be capable of working in physically demanding environments, including navigating stairs, ramps, and elevated platforms during venue conversions.
  • Ability to work outdoors continuously for extended periods of time in all weather conditions.
  • All other duties as assigned
