Title

Assistant /Associate Tenure-Track Professor, Agricultural, Food, and Applied Economics

Appointment

Assistant or Associate Tenure-Track, Appointments at the rank of Associate Professor with Tenure presume evidence of excellence in scholarship that establishes the individual as a significant contributor to the field or profession, with potential for national distinction. The rank of the appointment will be determined based on the applicant’s prior scholarly impact, leadership experiences, and national and international reputation as determined by the faculty.

Principal Duties

The Department of Agricultural Economics is seeking to hire two tenure-track faculty members at Purdue University in Indianapolis. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to shape the academic and research programs offered there.

Each successful candidate is expected to develop a nationally recognized research and teaching program in one of the following areas: agricultural economics; agribusiness management; food business management; or agricultural, environmental, or food policy. The successful candidates are expected to publish in high-impact peer reviewed journals, to mentor graduate students, and to secure external grant funding.

Teaching responsibilities will include undergraduate and graduate courses with a typical course load averaging two courses per year. Potential exists for teaching distance-delivered courses. Example courses the successful candidate may be expected to teach include introductory microeconomics, macroeconomics, agribusiness management, agricultural or environmental policy, or related courses. The specific courses and course load will depend on the candidate and department needs.

The department has a high-profile reputation for engagement with agricultural and food business stakeholders and policymakers to address challenges and opportunities facing Indiana and beyond. As the state’s capital city, the Indianapolis location facilitates such engagement with industry and government stakeholders. Successful candidates will have ample opportunity to actively engage with agricultural and food industry leaders, policymakers, and College of Agriculture stakeholders to enhance their research and teaching profiles. These activities may be enhanced by working with the department’s centers, including the Center for Food and Agricultural Business (CAB) and the Center for Commercial Agriculture (CCA), among numerous others.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in agricultural economics, business management, managerial economics, applied microeconomics, marketing, or related discipline by employment start date. This is an academic year (9-month) appointment. These positions will be based at Purdue University in Indianapolis.

The Department of Agricultural Economics at Purdue University has 34 tenure track faculty, over 420 undergraduate students across four majors, and over 100 graduate students. The department’s research and education activities are conducted on a wide array of issues that include agribusiness management, consumer behavior, sales, experimental economics, industrial organization, decision sciences, development, trade, policy, macroeconomics, production, consumption, and environmental and resource issues.
